Velasmooth treatments varies from a comfortable, warm, deep, soothing tissue massage to a slight level of discomfort due to the massage and vacuum actions, leaving warmth in the area for about 30 min after the treatment. Due to the heat generated by the probe, your skin can also be red and / or slightly swollen – this will dissipate after a short while. Temporary bruising or the formation of small red/purple spots caused by bleeding into the skin can also occur.

The treatment is however designed to accommodate client’s sensitivity and comfort level.

Treatments will vary by your needs as well as the severity of the concern and your response to the treatments.

Below is the average recommendation in accordance to the treatment protocol:

• Facial treatments – 8 – 10 treatments
• Body treatments – 8 – 10 treatments

Treatments will last any time between 20 – 150 minutes, depending on the severity of the condition, number of areas and size of the treatment area.

• Facial treatments – 1 – 2 x week
• Body treatments – 1 x week

All skin types can be treated. You should be healthy with objective expectations appropriate for your age.

The application of radio frequency to the skin is not harmful or unhealthy if managed within the treatment protocols. The heat generated by the radio frequency and infrared, is a controlled injury which stimulates the body’s natural healing process.

This treatment is not a method for losing body weight but complements the reduction of cellulite and localized accumulations of fat when combined with a balanced diet and regular exercise plan.

A complimentary consultation session of approximately 30 minutes, is required upfront where a comprehensive assessment will be done to determine whether you can proceed with treatments. During this session, expectations and possible contraindications will be discussed, and a plan formulated in accordance to your needs. It’s important to note that this treatment is not indicated for clients with a BMI of 30 plus. If you are pregnant or have a pacemaker, you may not perform this treatment.

• Be well hydrated – drink at least 6 – 8 glasses of water per day
• Avoid tanning or sun burning 2 weeks prior to any treatment
• No topical Retinoids (Vit A), Alpha Hydroxy Acids or Beta Hydroxy Acids for 24 hours on the treatment area
• No waxing at least 48 hours before any treatment (in the treatment area)
• Ensure your hair is shaved at least 24 hours prior to any treatment (in the treatment area) as hair is a conductor of heat and may cause the area to overheat
• Exfoliate and moisturize skin 24 hours prior to treatment to ensure effective penetration of the radio frequency
• If you do not wish to wear disposable underwear during body treatments, please bring an extra pair of underwear – to ensure consistency with photographs taken, it will be advisable to wear the same pair of underwear

For 12 hours after treatment:

• Avoid applying any creams, oils or powders on the treated area. A water-based cream and /or sunblock can be applied
• Avoid having an excessive hot bath, shower, sauna or any other heat induced treatment
• Avoid going into the sun or lying on a sunbed
• Avoid excessive exercise or sweating
• Avoid scratching / picking, if a blister develops – apply an ice pack & Bactroban
• Avoid swimming in a chlorinated pool
• Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication
• Avoid applying perfumes including anti-perspirants – can burn and / or discolor the skin
• Avoid wearing excessively tight clothes

For 48 hours after treatment:

• Avoid applying any topical Retinoids (Vit A), Alpha Hydroxy Acids or Beta Hydroxy Acids on the treatment area
• Avoid waxing or epilation on the treatment area

The following additional home care routines are advisable for effective and long-lasting results:

• Keeping your skin hydrated and nourished with a quality skin care program and daily application of a full spectrum sunscreen
• Taking appropriate supplements and nutrients
• Maintaining a general healthy lifestyle which includes:
  • A healthy and balanced diet
  • Daily hydration (minimum of 6 – 8 glasses of water)
  • Regular exercising
  • Avoid smoking
  • A balanced and healthy mind

When will I see results?

Clients are all different and respond differently to the treatments, however results can be seen anywhere between the 4^th – 5^th treatment session with more long-term results after about 12 treatments. Results in circumference reduction can also be seen from within the 1^st couple of treatments and averages on 2.5/ 3cm, dependant on the client’s lifestyle.

How long will the results last?

The treatment can last up to 12 months dependant on your lifestyle, for example regular exercise and healthy eating plan.

The healthier you are, the slower your collagen degenerates. Our bodies have the ability to return to their “normal” state, therefore for optimal and long-lasting results, a maintenance program is necessary.

It is recommended to have a phased maintenance plan and a minimum of 4 maintenance sessions in the first 3 months after completing the treatment course:

• Month 1 after treatments: 2 x maintenance treatments (1 treatment every 2 weeks)
• Month 2 after treatments: 1 x maintenance treatments (1 treatment per month)
• Month 3 after treatments: 1 x maintenance treatments (1 treatment per month)

Thereafter 1 x maintenance treatment every 3 months or as and when necessary
