All areas of the body can be treated, although Plasmatek™ Plasma Pen is most used for facial treatments. The technology is so advanced that it is safe and suitable to use in delicate and hard to reach areas such as around the eyes, lips and on the nose.

• Whether Plasmatek™ Plasma Pen treatments are painful will depend on the sensitivity of the client’s skin and pain threshold.
• A numbing cream can be applied to minimize or eliminate any discomfort.
  When the tip of the pen is close to the skin, it generates a micro bolt of lightning (plasma) which may feel like a slight “stinging” sensation due to the ablation (removal) of a very thin layer of the skin tissue.
• Most clients will experience an inflammatory reaction of mild redness and possibly some swelling and a tight feeling immediately after the treatment – the same way, you would feel with a mild sunburn. This reaction fades and subsides within a couple of hours after the treatment.
• Tiny, light red crusts will form on the treated areas which will become darker before they fall off – these could be visible for up 10 days

The healing process takes slower, the older we get, but below is an indication of what to expect, for the immediate healing process (although may differ by individual):

Clients can expect anything from the following until full recovery with normalized function within about 7 – 10 days

• 0 – 24 hours: Redness (sun burn sensation), tiny red crusts caused by the ablation, minor
  swelling, tight sensation. If any swelling occurs which is unlikely, you may apply
  ice packs covered with a clean cloth. Do not apply ice directly onto the skin.
  Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications like Aspirin, Ibuprofen or Steroids if
  possible. Turmeric tablets can be taken 3 x day to assist with inflammation and
  pain relief.
• 1 – 3 days: Redness can become more prominent as the crusts start to darken (
  browner), mild swelling, minor dry / tight sensation
• 4 – 7 days: Crusts / scabs could start falling off and could continue up to approximately 7 –
  10 days skin looks less red, although it could last up to about 3 / 4 weeks,
  dissipated swelling, reduced itching
• 7 – 10 days: The initial healing process takes approximately 7 days, but you will not look fully
  rejuvenated yet. It’s important to understand that the full effects of
  treatment do not appear until several months later due to the time it takes for
  our bodies to produce collagen and elastin but a noticeable improvement will be
  observed within 2 weeks.

A Plasmatek™ Plasma Pen treatment is not a once-off fix. Several treatments over an extended period may be needed to achieve results safely.

For anti-aging, wrinkle reduction and collagen induction we recommend starting with 3 treatments, but with a minimum interval period of approximately 4 weeks between treatments. 

For removal of pigmentation such as age spots/sunspots, Xanthelasma/fatty deposits on the eyes, skin tags and warts, a minimum of 1-2 treatments will be required. 

For the treatment of acne scarring, hypertrophic scarring and stretch marks reduction an average of 4 – 6 treatments are recommended, with a minimum interval period of 4 to 6 weeks between treatments. 

The number of treatments required will however depend on how each client responds to the treatments and the extent of the damage. 

The Plasmatek™ Plasma Pen treatment itself takes approximately 10 – 20 minutes, but due to the time required for the cleaning, preparation and numbing of the skin, the entire treatment can take between 20 – 45 minutes.

Plasma Pen treatments can safely be repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. Preferably, the 6-week interval must not be exceeded as the overall treatment plan, will be less effective for optimal results.

Non-Ablative treatments will take approximately 30 minutes per treatment and is recommended weekly. There is no down time and with visible results, this treatment is ideal for any special event.

Plasmatek™ Plasma Pen offers an Ablative and Non-Ablative treatment and is safe and effective for all skin types, and infection occurring is extremely low.

The ablative treatment is minimally invasive and involves downtime of 7-10 days. To minimize the potential risk of post inflammatory hyper pigmentation on Skin Types 4 – 6, it is compulsory at Canvas Aesthetics to use our Corrective Brighter Concentrate/Brighter Serum and Ovelle Supplement 14 days prior to treatment. This is precautionary and necessary to calm down the additional production of pigmentation, resulting in Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation.

The non-ablative treatment is a non-invasive treatment and can be performed safely on all skin types. It requires no downtime and there are no risks involved.

Clients who are unable to follow post care instructions of complete sun avoidance and application of SFP50 protection, will not be treated. Pregnant & breastfeeding clients should wait and have the treatment once pregnancy and breastfeeding are over. Clients that have or had cancer, epilepsy, uncontrolled diabetes, and inflamed skin conditions, may not proceed with the Plasma Pen treatment.

A complimentary consultation session of approximately 30 minutes, is required upfront where a comprehensive assessment will be done to determine whether you can proceed with treatments. During this session, expectations and possible contraindications will be discussed, and a plan will be formulated in accordance with your needs.

• 3 – weeks prior to treatment:
  No Microdermabrasion, Laser, IPL, Intensive Chemical Peels, Dermal injectables and fillers.
• 2 – 3 weeks prior to treatment:
  For optimal anti-aging treatment, we recommend using Lamelle’s Corrective RA (Vit A) in advance and or any of Lamelle’s Vitamin C serums
  NB: PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation can occur if proper care is not given. It is advisable to prepare the skin with Lamelle’s Corrective Brighter Concentrate or the Brighter Serum plus a quality SPF50. NOTE: THIS PREPARATION IS COMPULSARY FOR DARK SKINS
  It is advisable for all other skin types need to prepare your skin using a quality SPF50.
• 1 week prior to treatment:
  No sun burn / tan or self-tanning lotion on treatment area.
• 5 days prior to treatment:
  Stop use of all active topical skincare products (such as Acids – AHA and BHA, Vit A)
  Lamelle clients will stop Corrective RA Creams and Serums, Ultra Renewal, Clarity PM Plus, Luminesce Evening Glow.
  Do not colour hair on the same day as procedure

After care is imperative to prevent scaring, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation or infection.

NB: Avoid Sun Exposure at all costs for at least 5 – 7 days (preferably more). It is essential to always apply a quality SPF50 but not on the same day of the treatment.

For 12 hours after treatment:

• It is highly unlikely getting an infection after the Plasma Pen treatment; however, the first 12 hours post treatment is vital in protecting you from any potential infection.
• Don’t cleanse / wash the treated area until the following morning.
• OA Spray can be applied once after going to bed.
• Do not apply make-up – the treatment areas MUST Not be covered with any dense make-up, creams or any other products expect for possibly a tinted BB cream until the areas has been fully healed and scabs have fallen off.
• NO sun exposure. Do not use ANY sunscreen.
• Avoid hot baths, showers, sauna, intensive exercising, sweating or any other heat sources e.g., fires and hot stoves – for 5 – 7 days
• Avoid swimming in a chlorinated pool – for 5 – 7 days.

For 24 hours after treatment:

• Cleansing the treated are: Wash area gently with cleanser, using your fingers and patting lukewarm water onto the area. DO NOT RUB AT ANY POINT during washing or drying – pat over the area. This is essential to avoid any scaring, PIH and infection. Do not use anything abrasive items such as facecloths or facial sponges.
• Apply OA Spray after care (as prescribed) (AM & PM) for 7 – 10 days (*essential for healing post treatment)
• Avoid direct sun exposure – NB: Apply a quality chemical free sunscreen (SPF50) for at least 2 weeks after the crusting (scabs) have fallen off.
• We encourage “dry” healing and do not want to “soak” the treatment area – you can therefore use the OA Spray up to 3 times a day for approximately 5 days.
• Once the scabs start falling off (approximately around day 7 – 10), Do NOT pick at the areas or the crusts as this will delay the healing process and could cause PIH, scarring or infection.
• Your skin may be a little pink. This would be the preferred time to begin using your normal skin regime., but you would still avoid active topical products (such as Acids and Vit A or any other exfoliating ingredients for at least 21 days.

For 7 – 21 days after treatment:

• Avoid applying any active topical skincare products (such as Acids and Vit A)
• Lamelle clients will avoid: Corrective RA, Ultra Renewal, Clarity PM Plus, Luminesce Evening Glow

For 12 weeks after treatment:

• No Microdermabrasion, Laser, IPL, Intensive Chemical Peels, Dermal injectables and fillers, shaving.

In addition to adhering to strict post treatment protocol and care, the following additional home care routines are advisable for effective and long-lasting results:

Following your prescribed post care, keep your skin hydrated and nourished with a quality skin care program and daily application of a full spectrum sunscreen.

• Taking appropriate supplements and nutrients
• Maintaining a general healthy lifestyle which includes:
• A healthy and balanced diet
• Daily hydration (minimum of 6 – 8 glasses of water)

When will I see results?

The initial healing period for the skin takes approximately 7 days. It’s important to understand that although most clients will begin to see the results after approximately 2 – 3 weeks after the first treatment, the full effects of the Plasmatek™ Plasma Pen do not appear until about 3 months due to the time it takes for our bodies to produce collagen and elastin. With each additional treatment, the client should see incremental improvement in the overall appearance of the skin.

How long will the results last?

The treatment can last up to 12 months dependant on your lifestyle, for example if you are a
smoker or like to be in the sun, this can affect the results. A proper skincare regime at home as well as regular Plasmatek™ Plasma Pen treatments, are essential for optimal and long-lasting results.
